Places to Visit while in Paris: La Madeleine Church

La Madeleine Church Paris

“That can’t be it!” – was pretty much our reaction when we first saw  La Madeleine Church in Paris. It certainly didn’t look like a church. I looks like a Roman temple to the old gods, if anything. So we were pretty sure that we read the map wrong. Which wasn’t, you know, out of the realm of possibility.

To be honest, I was quite impressed with myself for not getting us lost earlier…

But hey, we were there … it looked interesting … why not go in?

Pictures of Paris Landmarks – Pont Alexander III

Pont Alexander III

This has got to be one of my top ten travel destinations recommendations. Out of all of Paris’s landmarks, Pont Alexander III is the place I’d first go to revisit when I get back there, someday…

It’s the most extravagantly adorned of Seine’s bridges. With its cherubs, nymphs and winged horses at both its ends, the bridge took my breath away from the first moment I saw it, right on the first night that we arrived in Paris. We went for a trip on the Seine. To see this bridge in the evening, lit magnificently, and by water … what could be best?

You’ve got to see it for yourselves, trust me on this!

Skiing Vacation in Austria

Mountains of St Wolfgang Austria

Remember the good old times … when we had an economy and we could afford to go skiing in Austria or sunbathing in the Caribbean? OK, maybe not on a regular basis, but still, we at least had a chance …

Not so much now, right? We have to start looking for cheap vacation spots and reconsider our travel plans…

At least we still have the pictures to remember how good we had it!

Streets of St Wolfgang – Austria

Streets of St Wolfgang

I just love the small, narrow, intricated, old street of St Wolfgang. The old houses, the cozy little shops, everything looks as if time stopped here and allowed this particular Austrian piece of fairytale land to keep its charm and atmosphere.

Every small detail needs to be noticed. Like the cute dolls that looked like children playing hide and seek outside a toystore.

St Wolfgang Lake – Boat Trip

St Wolfgang Boat Trip

My, my. I think I already told you I like lakes. Well, I like all bodies of water, I don’t discriminate, really.

I cannot swim to save my life, but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying a fabulous boat trip on a beautiful sunny day on St Wolfgang Lake. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the lake was even more blue … I was happy :)

I just wish I could go back soon…

Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride through St Wolfgang – Austria

I can think of worse things than spending a couple of hours taking a ride in a carriage drawn by two gorgeous horses all through the streets of St Wolfgang.

The Austrian resort deserves to be seen at a slow pace, you should really take your time to enjoy the breath-taking landscape of the mountains and the lake that border this gem of the Austrian Alps.

St Wolfgang by Night

St Wolfgang by Night

Talk about a postcard photo! I think the image of the St Wolfgang church by night, beautifully lit and reflecting in the lake’s water is even better in the digital picture than it was on reality. Truly.
The village was once an important pilgrimage site, now it’s mostly a winter resort. But the church still attracts many visitors, keen to see its famous altarpiece that belongs to it since 1481.

Christmas Shopping in Austria’s St Wolfgang

A Stroll through St Wolfgang

Time came to go for a stroll on the streets of St Wolfgang. The Austrian mountain resort was definitely ready for our little Christmas shopping spree. The coquette narrow streets took us from little shop to another little shop, all of them looking as though they were painted by a fairytale book illustrator.
There was even a ginger bread house on display in the window of a little bakery. I kid you not!
All kinds of Christmas trees everywhere and enough Christmas decorations to ornate a whole forest – but somehow they didn’t have the commercial feeling this stuff usually has. Here it seemed … natural, warm and fuzzy. Just as Christmas is supposed to feel.
